At Chatham Nursery School, we are committed to providing a safe, nurturing, and enriching environment where children can learn and grow. We teach children how to keep themselves safe, form positive and healthy relationships, and avoid situations where they may be at risk, including being exploited.
The school has a legal responsibility to share any concerns about a child’s welfare with the appropriate agencies, including the police, health services, and children’s services. At Chatham Nursery, we always strive to work in partnership with parents and other agencies to ensure the best possible outcomes for both the child and the family.
To protect our children, we have implemented the following measures:
- All staff are trained to recognise the signs of abuse.
- Clear procedures are in place for staff to follow if they have concerns about a child.
- Designated staff are responsible for handling child protection issues.
- Safe recruitment practices are followed for all new staff. All students and volunteers receive appropriate induction and supervision.
- Statutory and relevant policies, including our child protection policy, whistle-blowing policy, and staff code of conduct, are regularly reviewed and form part of our everyday practices.
Our nursery school is part of Operation Encompass which is a national scheme that operates jointly between schools and police forces.
Operation Encompass is the reporting to schools, prior to the start of the next school day, when a child or young person has experienced domestic
abuse and other issues that may impact upon their wellbeing.
Our police force will now share details about children who are missing from home with us so that we can appropriately understand and support
their needs when they return.
