We welcome all children, including those with additional needs, into our school, and are proud of the progress children with additional needs make during their time with us.

All children at Chatham Nursery School follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum and, if appropriate, are given further support through small group work and intervention. We are committed and proactive in working to narrow the attainment gap between SEND and non-SEND students.

Attendance is vitally important to enable children to achieve their full potential and we work with parents to ensure their child is able to attend nursery regardless of any additonal needs or barriers.

We ensure our children are able to access our curriculum regardless of need by creating play plans that highlight strategies to support children to access the curriculum (indoor and outdoor provision, co-curricular activities, adult led activities, co-curricular experiences, trips & visitors)

Staff are trained in identifying and working with children with additional needs and their families. Staff have received training on delivering bucket therapy, intensive interactions, and sensory circuits.

Our Special Educational Needs & Disability co-ordinators (SENCO) are Mrs Atkinson (Nursery School) and Rachel (Two-Year Old Provision)

Our School Governor with responsibility for SEND is Ms Jackson.

If you have any concerns regarding your child, please speak to Mrs Atkinson or Rachel, who will be happy to make an appointment with you.
