At Chatham Nursery School we are committed to ensuring that all our children thrive and learn, making the most of their time with us.

It is important that children have good attendance, arrive and are collected from nursery school on time. Therefore, we kindly ask for your cooperation in promoting good habits of attendance and punctuality as they lay the foundation for lifelong learning.

  • Children are expected to attend all their weekly sessions as regular attendance is vital for their development.
  • If your child is unwell, please keep them at home to recover. If your child has taken Calpol before coming to school, it often means that they are not well enough to be in a busy learning environment. This practice also helps us to minimise the spread of illnesses among our children and staff.
  • Should your child be absent, please call the office on the first day of absence by calling 0151 233 1201 and providing the reason for their absence. This information will be logged, enabling us to monitor attendance consistently and supportively.
  • In cases where your child is absent and we do not receive a notification from you; we will take the initiative to contact you. If we cannot reach you, we will attempt to contact the emergency contacts you have provided.
      • It is important to highlight that unexplained absences will prompt swift action from our side.
      • Your child’s class teacher will make initial contact on the first day of absence if your child is absent and they have not received a reason for this absence.
      • If we remain unable to make contact by the end of the week, a home visit may be conducted by SLT for safeguarding purposes.
      • If after a Home Visit, there is still no reasonable explanation for a child’s absence, appropriate steps will be taken e.g. contacting Careline or the Police.
  • Please ensure that you bring and collect your child on time, as punctuality is just as important as regular attendance. Drop-off is at 8.30am for morning starters. Afternoon session children should arrive by 12.15 pm. We expect all children to be in by 8.45 am or 12.30 pm and ready for a full session of learning.
  • The pick-up times for our children are set at 11.30 am for morning session attendees and 3.15 pm for those in the afternoon session. Door are open for pick up 15 minutes before (11.15 & 3.00)

Late arrivals or collections can lead to distress for your child. If you find yourself unavoidably delayed, please inform the school via phone. If your child consistently arrives late, we will request a meeting with the Headteacher and Class teacher to discuss the underlying reasons for their lateness. We stand ready to support our families with genuine concerns.

Where absences are prolonged or frequent, even after discussions with parents or carers, the child may unfortunately lose their place at our Nursery. This place will subsequently be offered to another child from our waiting list.
